Rotary’s theme for October is Economic and Community Development and this month we are certainly undertaking this theme.
Firstly, we have our 50th Golf Day on Friday 10th October at the Lang Lang Golf Club. It’s a significant milestone 50 Golf Days and I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed over these 50 years to make this such an important date on our annual calendar. We really would like to see all Rotarians and their partners attend the dinner (if not being there during the afternoon) to help celebrate this milestone. If any members need assistance in getting out and back, let us know and we can arrange transport!
Secondly, we have a guest speaker at our meeting on the 15th October. It’s Sonja Bale from the Bendigo Bank and she is gong to talk to us about thing related to this month’s theme. Again, this will be a partner’s night. It would be great to have a big turn out as Bendigo Bank and Rotary have a shared history and they continue to be major supporters and sponsors of our Club activities.
Keeping on a theme of big events, on Wednesday 5th November the District Governor Peter Behm is coming to Lang Lang where we hosting a Cluster Meeting. Cluster you ask? It’s a grouping of Rotary Clubs that can work together to support one another as required. We are linked with Pakenham and Bunyip – Garfield. The Presidents and a representative or two from these clubs will come along on the night. Again, this will be a Partner’s night here. The meeting will be at the Palace Hotel as a dinner meeting starting at 6:30pm (Still to be confirmed). Also attending on the night will be Monique Smith the District 9815 Conference Chair to talk to our Club and the Cluster about the Conference in Hobart in March.
Well what a fantastic turn up to our last meeting at the Lang Lang Primary School with 11 members attending. We had a fantastic presentation from Principal Luke Wilson and it was followed with lots of constructive discussion. Thanks Travis for arranging Luke.
Carols planning is well underway and it should be another great event on the 5th December.
Last week Travis, Robbie and myself attended the Lang Lang District Business and Community Group Meeting at which Victoria Police, Cardinia Shire and Neighbourhood Watch spoke. Some very interesting and potentially shocking statistics were presented. We here in Koo Wee Rup and Lang Lang are part of Southern Metro District 2 for Victoria Police (City of Dandenong, City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council) and we have 40% of Victoria’s reported Domestic Violence in this area. I’d like to think that it all happens in Dandenong and Casey but this is a silent crime that occurs behind closed doors. There is an opportunity for us as a Club to champion saying no to Domestic Violence in our communities. I’d like our club to consider facilitating a public meeting in each town and doing it in partnership with the sporting clubs in both towns. A local approach to raise community awareness to a hidden problem.
It all fits well with Rotary’s theme of Uniting for Good and helping create safer and more resilient local communities. It’s also demonstrating to our communities that Rotary is a local organisation supporting local communities.
DG Peter Behm has released his second video and this is all about branding and Rotary Signage and will be of interest to everyone. Have a look and lets see what we can do to better promote our club!

Reminder that we now have our web site www.rotaryclubkwrll.com. Let’s make sure we create some great content and put it on our web site as well as socials. The Golf Day will be a great opportunity to showcase our club! Also photos at meetings and any activities.
